Alveolar Cleft

« Back to Glossary Index

An alveolar cleft is a congenital gap in the upper jaw’s bony ridge where teeth and gums meet. This defect is often associated with cleft lip and palate. Surgical correction, like alveolar cleft grafting, is required to fill the gap with bone and close any openings between the mouth and nose.
